The Red Storm continued its strong run through BIG EAST play, securing a dramatic series win with an 8-6 extra-inning victory over Xavier on Saturday. Trailing 5-1 early, St. John’s stormed back behind a season high 19 hit attack before Cristian Bernardini delivered the decisive blow, launching a go ahead three run homer in the 11th inning to lift the Johnnies to their second straight extra inning victory.
Every St. John’s starter recorded a hit, with Bernardini, Ayden Frey, and Lewis Rodriguez each posting three hit performances. Will Cowan sparked the comeback in the seventh with a two run homer that cut the deficit to one, while Adam Agresti and Jayder Raifstanger added RBI singles. Frey tied the game in the ninth with a clutch two out RBI knock before Bernardini’s late blast gave the Red Storm its first lead of the afternoon.
The bullpen was outstanding, highlighted by Jack Nestler, who fired 4.2 innings of two-hit relief with five strikeouts. Thomas Harding, Nick Romer, and Evan Hoeckele combined to close it out, with Hoeckele earning his third save as St. John’s improved to 23-19 and 9-2 in conference play.

Mike Cervoni paced the offense, launching a solo homer and driving in three runs, including a two run single during a three run fifth inning that put the Seawolves back in front. Scott Gell added two hits and an RBI, while Nick Zampieron and Chris Carson contributed run scoring knocks. Chanz Doughty also reached base twice and scored in the opening inning.
Starter Micah Worley kept Stony Brook in the game early before Christian Martinez worked key relief innings, but Towson’s late power proved decisive. After reclaiming the lead on a wild pitch in the ninth, the Seawolves could not hold off the Tigers’ final rally as Stony Brook fell to 20-20.
