Jionni Dimaio picks off a runner to finish off a dominant win for the 11u Hauppauge Eagles!

The 11u Hauppauge Eagles continued their winning ways Monday evening with a 9-0 victory over Canes Long Island, improving to 2-0 in Hot Stove Summer Slugfest League play.
The Eagles are fresh off a trip to Aberdeen, Maryland, where they earned a third place finish in a Ripken tournament. In two Hot Stove summer league games, the Eagles have outscored opponents 21-0.
Right-hander Jaxson Brown started on the mound for the Eagles Monday and did not disappoint. The young righty racked up six strikeouts across four scoreless innings, allowing no runs on just one hit and no walks to earn the win.
Brown also went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI double, showing off his two-way abilities. Hauppauge Eagles head coach Joe Pesqueira showered Brown with praise following the win.

“He’s our ace, he’s always that guy for us,” Pesqueira said. “He’s got a solid fastball, mixes it up well with his off-speed stuff, and he’s the smartest pitcher… always methodical in the way he approaches every at bat.”
Deservedly high praise for the 11u star after his big performance.
The Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, scoring on a throwing error and two RBI groundouts.
Five more runs came across in the bottom of the third, with Brett Narciso and Jaxson Brown each picking up an RBI to push the Eagles’ lead up to 8-0 heading into the fourth.
Brown was relieved by Jionni Dimaio to begin the fifth inning after four frames of shutout ball. Dimaio impressed across his two innings of work, closing out the game for the Eagles with back-to-back scoreless innings. His pickoff to end the game added a finishing flourish to what was an all-around dominant win for the 11u Hauppauge Eagles.
The Eagles travel baseball program has a close relationship with the Hauppauge High School varsity baseball team, which may explain the skill and confidence their young players show on the diamond. The reigning Suffolk County Class AA champions regularly visit with their younger counterparts to help them develop as both baseball players and young men.
“Coach Josh Gutes of Hauppauge varsity runs two summer clinics for our kids, a regular camp for our younger kids and a more advanced clinic for our older guys,” Pesqueira explained. “The varsity players work with us throughout the year, they have relationships with our kids and know them on a first name basis. It’s awesome to have that. I would like to think nobody has a stronger pipeline than ours.”
The 11u Hauppauge Eagles will be back in action, weather permitting, Tuesday, July 21, at 6:00 P.M. against the Garden City Spartans.
