Hauppauge Eagles Continue Strong Season with 16-4 Victory

In Hot Stove Suffolk Summer League action, the Hauppauge Eagles 12U (11-2-1) continued their strong season on Tuesday evening over Team Beast 12U (4-6-1) with a 16-4 victory. The Eagles used explosive offense and aggressive baserunning to cruise to victory. The Eagles had already defeated Team Beast twice earlier this summer, winning 14-10 and 10-0.

The Eagles jumped ahead in the first when singles by Avery Osman and Jionni Dimario sparked the offense. Avery Osman came home on a productive groundout by Bobby McGaughey. Vincent Hughes came up to the plate, and on the first pitch of his at-bat, he hit a long home run. One parent remarked, “That was the farthest home run I have ever seen hit here.” That blast increased the Hauppauge lead to 3-0.

The bottom of the first and the entire second were scoreless. Ryan Egan settled in for Team Beast while Vincent Hughes continued to dominate on the mound for the Eagles. The Eagles extended their lead when Dylan Reyes lined a single that scored Vincent Hughes and Vincent Guidice. Team Beast made a textbook cut play to nail the runner at the plate, which helped them get out of the jam.

In the bottom of the third, there was some traffic on the bases, but Hughes didn’t allow any runs. Hauppauge added to its lead in the fourth after the first two batters reached on walks, then a line drive single by Jionni Dimario scored one to increase the lead to 6-0. Bobby McGaughey and Vincent Hughes both grounded out, each drove in a run, stretching the lead to 8-0.

Team Beast’s bats came alive in the fourth inning. Rhys Lewis singled on a line drive to right field, which scored 2 runs for Nicholas Whelan and Anthony Jiminez. The lead was cut down to a six-run game (8-2). The Beast’s offense wasn’t over yet. The bases were eventually loaded up for Ford Askin, who hit a hard ground ball to second base that drove in Rhys Lewis to make it a five-run game.

The Eagles responded during the top of the fifth when Avery Osman drove a line drive double as Dylan Strachovsky crossed the plate to increase the lead to 9-3. Later in the inning, Bobby McGaughey doubled, scoring Osman. With another RBI opportunity, Hughes swung at the first strike he saw and drove a two-run single to left field, increasing the lead to 12-3.

A failed first and third cut play allowed Christian Begina to score from third to cut the lead to eight runs. Then, in the top of the 6th, Dylan Strachovsky singled, scoring one run. Strachovsky scored the run that put the Eagles that earned the Eagles a run-rule victory. Avery Osman then came up to the plate and hit a three-run homer to put the icing on the cake.

Vincent Hughes had a dominant performance on the mound. He threw 5 innings with 6 strikeouts. He had great control and got ahead early in the count. His teamwork with his catcher, Vincent Guidice, was the key to success in this game.

The Eagles are on a hot streak and look to continue their strong summer season.
