The transformation has been stark.
Merrick Mayhem was founded in 2019 as a single 8u travel baseball team consisting of players from Merrick and Bellmore. Seven years later, the team –now known as Mayhem Baseball — fields 19 baseball teams ranging from 7u through 15u. Come fall 2026, they will be adding a 16u team as well.
More than 300 players from 25 different communities call Mayhem home.
At the heart of this transformation is the organization’s 13u Mann team, coached by co-owner Brian Mann.
Their roster features players from Bellmore JFK, Calhoun, East Meadow, Massapequa, Port Washington, Carey, Garden City and Valley Stream school districts. Rather than assembling a roster from one community, they decided to focus on players who shared the same work ethic, competitiveness and desire to develop.
The results on the field have followed, as they have compiled a record of 39-7-1 while playing against some of the best competition in the region. During the 2026 season, they have captured multiple championships, highlighted by the Blue Chip Prospects Summer Series 14u National Division while competing at an age level above.
“Our goal has never been to simply build the best team from one town,” said co-owner Brian Mann. “We’ve worked to create an environment where talented players from all over Long Island can come together, compete at a high level, develop as athletes, and enjoy being a part of something bigger than themselves. The success of this 13u group has validated that vision.”
A New Home for Player Development
Another major milestone in Mayhem Baseball’s growth came in January 2025 with the opening of Mayhem Training Facility in Bellmore.
The state-of-the-art 9,000 square foot indoor training center become the organization’s year-round home and one of the area’s premier baseball and softball development facilities.
The facility includes:
- Eight batting and pitching tunnels, including four 65-foot tunnels designed for full-distance training
- HitTrax baseball and softball technology.
- Multiple Hack Attack pitching machines.
- Professional instruction provided through Max Effort Training – All team winter training and weekly hitting handled by coaching staff and Max Effort trainers for teams.
- Individual lessons, team training, rentals, clinics and camps through Max Effort.
- Availability to the general public for rentals, lessons and private events.
The impact has extended well beyond Mayhem Baseball. During 2026, numerous local high school programs utilized the facility for offseason and preseason training including Bellmore JFK, Calhoun, Mepham, Holy Trinity, Seaford and Syosset.
Bellmore JFK reaped the benefits of the training – capturing their first County and Long Island Championship in program history.
“The facility is top notch and to have a local travel organization that has such a strong base is tremendous for our community,” said Bellmore JFK head coach Mike Gattus. “If you look at all of the top high school programs on the island it all starts with strong little league and community involvement and the Mayhem Training Facility gives kids local access to great training alongside a very strong travel program. We have one of the best little leagues on the island in the MBLL and then you add in the Mayhem Training facility being local, it is a huge boost for baseball in the community.”
