Editor’s Note: This is the fourth installment of the Sunday Spotlight series in which we highlight top performers from the 2026 season. Previously, we featured Matt Kurz, Joe Carey and CJ Alfano. Special thanks to Lux Stone Group for sponsoring this year’s series.
A .425 AVG,.520 OBP, .863 SLG is rarified air in the Catholic League for any player. St. Dominic’s Dylan Weinstein is accomplishing that as a sophomore. He is a big reason the Bayhawks pulled off two impressive wins this week against St. John the Baptist and St. Anthony’s to advance to Monday’s winner’s bracket final against Kellenberg.
His coach, Joe Fusco, spoke highly of the sophomore:
“I’m not surprised that he’s done this as a sophomore – I got to spend all last summer with him and he played 15u, 16u and 17u and he was dominant. For him to take this step, isn’t that much of a surprise. As far as the lineup is concerned, he’s hit with some protection behind him – Connor Ackerman (Hofstra-commit) and Ray Kim (Rhode Island-commit) makes it tough for teams to pitch around him. When they do, he takes his walks. When they attack him, he makes them pay.”
St. Dominic is eyeing their first CHSAA Championship since 2009. For them to do so, they’ll likely need Weinstein and Co. to sustain this level of production.
“We just have to continue to execute,” said Fusco. “We are not surprised that we are here. I don’t consider this some underdog story. This is the same group of characters that won the regular season title the last two years. Our expectation is to get there and to win.”

Any family members that played college sports?
My aunt played softball at Molloy.
Favorite player in Major League Baseball?
Since I started playing, Aaron Judge has been someone I’ve watched and tried to model myself after. I’ve worn number 99 since I was 7.
How have you enjoyed your time at St. Dominic HS?
I love being at St. Dominic. It was the best decision that me and my family could have made for my future. The people at the school from the principal to the athletic director and every single one of my teachers are always working with me to be the best I can be.
What has been your most thrilling moment on a baseball field?
Coming in relief in the 16u BCS National Championship and turning a double play to get out of an inning. We won the game on a walk-off in the bottom of the 7th.
Do you work with any private instructors?
Yes, I hit with Jack Parenty at Max Effort Baseball. Jack has worked with me over the last 2 years and helped take me to the next level as a hitter.
What did you work on this offseason?
My offseason was pretty packed between playing basketball and working out getting ready for the spring season. My main focus was keeping my hitting sharp during the downtime.
St. Dominic is seeking their first title since 2009. What do you think will be the key to making this happen?
We need timely hitting from everyone but the key will be playing clean defense. Everybody in this league has great pitching and the games are always tight. As long as we stay together and play as a team, I’m positive we can beat anyone.
This will be a crucial summer for you with the college recruiting window opening up on August 1. What are you looking for in a college?
I’m hoping to go down south and major in sports medicine. From a baseball perspective, I’m looking to find a place where I can compete for a job right away.
