18 hour bus rides are not for the faint of heart. You really have to love baseball to drive from Salt Lake City to Medicine Hat, Canada only to get off the bus and play a double header. This was life in the minor leagues in the late 1980s. Long Island-native Tommy Boyce did it for 3 seasons after his recording-setting career at NY Tech. Prior to that, he helped lead Comsewogue to their first and only New York State Championship in 1982. Along his journey there were many highs and lows, but first let’s turn the clock back. Jack Halloran, Westhampton Beach, made it his point to do everything in his power to not only succeed at the college level, but to get a good education. Halloran, a four-year varsity player, compiled a 1.503 OPS during his seniors season in which he helped lead the Hurricanes to a postseason appearance. The Top Tier Aviators took on the Islip Owls Baseball Club on Saturday morning in a LI Boys of Summer 15u American doubleheader. The two games featured a mix of almost everything; good defense, good pitching and a lot of offense. The Aviators ended up with the upper hand on the Owls today, as they won game two of the twin bill after game one ended in a tie. They had dropped their last four contests, scoring only six runs across the four losses. The two games featured a lot of action between the two teams, which included a lot of walks. Base on balls were a common them as 30 were issued against both of the teams throughout the 12 innings of baseball played Sunday. Due to the time limit both games only went 6 innings each.
