B1 started Elvin Mele (Garden City 2027) on the mound while the Titans went with Brayden Wheeler (Division 2027). The Titans got the scoring started early, posting three runs in the top of the first inning. Back-to-back walks and a HBP loaded the bases to start the game. Jake King Commits to Iona University
While 2024 was not a great season for Sachem East, they did have to be thrilled with the progress of sophomore RJP Jake King. The big righty had a very solid season for the Arrows, compiling a 3.20 ERA over 6 starts with 27 strikeouts. He formed a formidable rotation along with Jamie Apicella and Austin Barrett. Following the season, King took his game to the next level for the Body Armor Titans. He notched a 6-1record while firing 37 innings with a sparkling 1.10 ERA. Thanks to a late rally from Titans Baseball with great base running made the game result in a draw. Jack Doucet for Yeti and Jack Tallon for Titans Baseball got the start and were effective especially when there was traffic on the bases. In the 1st, Teague Nolan led the game off for Yeti and walked. Logan O’Hoppe to Receive 2018 Axcess Man of the Year Award
It’s been a year of accomplishments for St. John the Baptist grad Logan O’Hoppe. First, he led the Cougars to the CHSAA Championship, then he was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 23rd round of the MLB Draft and finally he was named 1st Team All-American Gold Glove Award winner by Rawlings. The latter of which was awarded to the top prep catcher in the country. Only three base runners attempted steals on him this season. He can add one more award to his mantle, as he was voted the 2018 Axcess Baseball Man of the Year by his peers, garnering 62 percent of the votes, edging out Anthony D’Onofrio and Matt Hogan. LI Elite Edge Titans Molinaro at Stony Brook
The LI Elite 2020 South were set to face off against the LI Titans Molinaro in the 16U American division of the Boys of Summer on Thursday at 6 o’clock on Thursday evening. An hour prior to the planned start time, there was some doubt regarding whether or not the game would be played. From about 5:00 to 6:00, there was constant, heavy rainfall, with booming thunder as lightning constantly flashed across the sky. The sun soon emerged, and played its part in helping to dry up the field. At approximately 7 PM, the game finally started. 17 Miles, Two Counties Apart, One Passion: Baseball
by Matt Dzenawager The Carl Yastrzemski Award, given to the best player in Suffolk County, and the Diamond Award, given to the best positional player in Nassau County, are two of the most prestigious honors for Long Island High School baseball players. This year the Carl Yastrzemski Award was earned by Matt Hogan of Half Hollow Hills East High School and the Diamond Award was earned by Anthony D’Onofrio of Wantagh High School. Despite living in different counties, the game of baseball has brought Hogan and D’Onofrio together. The two have played travel ball together since they were 11 for the Long Island Titans organization and have forged a long-lasting, great friendship. “Everyday, every weekend we’ve had games and stuff,” Hogan said “baseball is more of a brotherhood bond.” Both D’Onofr...
