by Tucker Terranova In baseball and in life, everything can change in an instant. Brendan Ott knows that better than most. It was January 18, 2024 – a date he won’t forget. The recent St. Anthony’s graduate had just wrapped up a Thursday afternoon workout and joined some friends for a pickup basketball game. Basketball had always been part of his DNA – a passion that rivaled even his love for the diamond. Then came a move he’d made a thousand times before, but this time, something felt off. Ott heard a crack in his knee. At first, he shrugged it off, thinking it was nothing serious. He tested it, bent it, walked on it. No sharp pain. No swelling yet. He went home thinking he’d be fine. But by that night, the pain worsened. The swelling grew. A long weekend of worry followed. On Monday, he ...
by Tucker Terranova Jack Durso discusses what worked and how he was able to navigate the St. Anthony’s lineup in Kellenberg’s 1-0 victory. pic.twitter.com/PExboTAb1x — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 18, 2025 Kellenberg has established itself as a Long Island pitcher factory, producing top-tier arms like Chris Cappas, Jason Diaz, and Andrew Koshy in recent years. It’s now time to add Jack Durso to that list. Durso, a southpaw heading to the University of Miami this fall, hasn’t just carried the torch in 2025, he’s added to the legacy. “Jack has been watching Kellenberg baseball since he was in sixth grade because his brother, Joe Durso, graduated in 2021,” head coach Pat Miles told Axcess Baseball. “He told me two years ago that he wanted to be on that Mount Rushmore with those gu...

Baseball fans were treated to an absolute perfect setting for Opening Day of the Catholic League. It was an incredible pitching match up between the reigning champs, St. Anthony’s, against the Kellenberg Firebirds. The Friars sent West Virginia-commit Luke Coats against Miami-commit Jack Durso. A handful of MLB scouts were on hand anticipating a tremendous pitcher’s duel. St. Anthony’s got off to a quick start in the top of the first. A leadoff single by Stony Brook-commit Jacob Vaccariello, HBP of West Virginia-commit CJ Alfano and a single to left by ...
Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Vin Messana St. Anthony’s is your 2024 Catholic League Champion! It is their first title since 2000 🏆 pic.twitter.com/uW9Vmfbksp — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 27, 2024 When Paul Parsolano took over as head coach at St. Anthony’s, they were in the midst of a championship drought that dated back to 2000. After a few years of knocking on the door, including an appearance in the finals in 2019 against Chaminade, they were finally able to take that next step and break through in 2024. They did so in dramatic fashion, winning a thrilling, 4-3, in 9 innings against Holy Trinity – who were the reigning NYS Catholic League Champs. The Friars were sluggish getting out of the gate, sta...
Here was the final out of last night’s NSCHSAA Final @SAFriarsBase pic.twitter.com/8b8kvPYgIo — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 27, 2024 Trailing 2-0 in the 6th inning against the reigning Catholic League Champs is an unenviable position to be in, but the St. Anthony’s Friars were not going to be denied this time. Not after coming up close in many instances over the past two decades as the Friars searched for that elusive Catholic League Championship. The 2024 Friars, led by head coach Paul Parsolano, were able to outlast Holy Trinity in 9 innings at Mitchel Field to capture their first NSCHSAA Championship since 2000. “I’m at a loss for words. They are such a tough team – to be able to keep answering the way these guys have. I can’t believe these guy...
by Tucker Terranova Farmingdale State College hosted the NSCHSAA Quarterfinal Round on Sunday afternoon featuring two matchups between the top four seeds in perhaps Long Island’s most historic and competitive conference. The latter of the day’s action showcased the No. 2 Kellenberg Firebirds and No. 3 St. Anthony’s Friars duking it out for the right to advance to the semifinals. The two rivals met twice in the regular season with Kellenberg sweeping the season series. However, they knew this was a different team than the one they faced in April. St. Anthony’s entered the playoffs as the hottest team in the conference, boasting a 7-1 record in the month of May. They maintained their momentum today, edging out Kellenberg in a gritty 3-2 victory. “We’ve had a good mindset all season but put ...
End of 1: Joe Galeotafiore rips a 2-out, 2-run double to left center St. Dominic 3, St. Anthony’s 0 pic.twitter.com/2Baqv8pfub — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 9, 2024 While St. Dominic has a young team, it doesn’t necessarily mean 2024 is a rebuilding year for them. Head Coach Joe Fusco said “these are not your typical freshman and sophomore type players, they are some of the best players in their class at that age.” They have backed up that talk and the Bayhawks defeated a tough St. Anthony’s team, 9-3, behind their ace, Victor Frederick. The St. John’s-commit went six shutout innings, allowing just three hits, issuing two walks and striking out six. He retired the first 10 batters to face him before sophomore CJ Alfano lined a single to get the ...
by Max Edelman FINAL: @CHSFlyersBall 2 – @SAFriarsBase 1 John Carroll finishes off a complete game, in which he struck out nine. The Flyers hold off a late Friars surge to open their season with a win. pic.twitter.com/vqAKeEUyil — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 26, 2024 On a day where all seven Catholic League teams played at the Moriches Sports Complex to celebrate the beginning of a new season, the Chaminade Flyers defeated the St. Anthony’s Friars 2-1. Entering the top of the seventh and final inning up 2-0, Chaminade starting pitcher John Carroll needed only three outs to give the Flyers the win, and his first complete game shutout of the season. However, that’s where things got dicey. The top half of the seventh began with Carroll getting sophomore CJ Alfano to hit ...
Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s season preview series. St. Anthony’s has compiled a record of 25-8 over the past two regular seasons, but they fell short in the playoffs both times. Coach Paul Parsolano, now entering his 5th season with the club, is eager for his club to take that next step to get over the hump and break their championship drought. “The last two years we turned into a whole other team. We’ve been so close the last two years. We feel like the program is finally where we want it to be. I’ve never had this much depth since I’ve been here – at all three levels of the programs. We must be doing something right because more and more players are wanting to be here. I think we are ready to make t...
