As always, the Class A playoffs will be a roller coaster of emotions. It brings high energy, closely contested match ups and upsets. The factor that makes these playoffs so great, is that there’s 18 teams competing for the ultimate goal of a county championship. As we’ve seen in previous years, there’s been clear favorites heading into the postseason. However, this year, it’s anybody’s title to win. MacArthur Blanks Great Neck South 8-0, Sweeps Series

In dominating fashion, MacArthur shut out Great Neck South on Thursday evening by a score of 8-0. With the victory, MacArthur sweeps the series to start their season off 3-0. From the get go, it was obvious the Generals were going to be in control of this one. After a scoreless first inning, Jimmy Mahoney and David Johnsen got things started as they both drove in runs in the second inning to provide MacArthur with an early 2-0 lead. Coming Off 18-1 Season, Great Neck South Ready For Challenge of Conference A1

The Great Neck South Rebels dominated last year, wining the county wide league with an 18-1 record, which was also the best record for any varsity team in Nassau County. With that considered, this year, they were ready to take a step up in competition. The coaches were ready, and the players wanted the challenge. This year the Rebels move up to the A1 league, where they will find the competition they were looking for. They have the talent to compete and win this year. If you’ve followed Nassau County baseball at some point in your life, you are aware that MacArthur is one of the most decorated programs in Long Island history. Within the last ten years, MacArthur has totaled five Diamond Award winners and took home the Class AA County Championship in 2015. Among one of the few programs in Nassau County who compete for a county championship no matter what their roster looks like, MacArthur knows what it takes to be successful.
