(Editor’s Note: This article was originally published in March 2025) by Patrick Duryea There’s not many more exciting spectacles then when a large crowd gathers at a high school sporting event. Baseball games will have a tough time rivaling football unless it’s a championship or the crowd consists of scouts watching the next draft pick. But in Levittown, when two of their high school’s square off, “sold out crowd” is an understatement. The storied history of the town is matched evenly with a rich tradition of baseball success at their three schools: Division, MacArthur, and Island Trees. The history of all three schools is filled with winning coaches, championships, and Long Island baseball heroes. All within one town this has created incredible rivalries and atmospheres over the yea...
(Editor’s Note: This article was published in November 2024) Jeff Tyler always found a way to win. Whether it was during his storied high school career for the MacArthur Generals or in college for the Adelphi Panthers there was often a W next to his name in the box score. In fact, even long after his career ended he still found a way to be the winning pitcher. That’s right, even at Adelphi’s Alumni day many years after his final competitive pitch, he was able to hawk a win against Adelphi’s current team. Jeff Tyler owns Long Island’s record for the most wins in a varsity career with 32. He played during the height of Levittown’s special run in which he led the Generals to back-to-back Long Island Championships in 1993 and 1994. But to understand the full story, you must start from th...

One pitch, one out. 21 outs later D’Ornellas had achieved a complete game shutout, leading his squad to their fifth straight victory in the LI Boys of Summer 15U National Division. It was a homecoming performance for D’Ornellas. The MacArthur HS class of 2027 product was able to pitch at his home field. In fact, a quarter of MVP’s lineup consisted of MacArthur players, including Gio Arganese, another cla...

Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Max Edelman In 32 years as the head coach of the MacArthur Generals, Steve Costello has compiled 570 wins in a tenure that has spanned four decades. And while last year’s team wasn’t able to accomplish the ultimate goal of a championship, only four seniors graduated from Costello’s program, leaving plenty of returning players in 2025. “We only had four returning seniors on the entire roster last year, which is very unusual.” Costello said. “All of those seniors did a great job. We were really unsure with how last year was going to go. We ended up winning the league before getting eliminated in the County Quarterfinals to Carey in a three-game series. We lost one game in the regular season.” Wh...

B3: Carey 0 | MacArthur 2 Chase Palma rips a 2-RBI single to give MacArthur the lead. pic.twitter.com/MKhHcXzjk5 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 13, 2024 by Tucker Terranova The Nassau County AA Quarterfinals kicked off with a showdown between the No. 9 Carey Seahawks and the top-seeded MacArthur Generals at MacArthur High School. MacArthur is amidst an impressive spring, boasting a 16-4 record that secured them the No. 1 seed. On the other hand, Carey wrapped up their season with a 15-6 record and earned themselves a spot in the quarterfinals after a convincing 10-1 victory over Mepham in the play-in round. In Game 1 of a best-of-three showdown, the story of the afternoon was the ace of the MacArthur staff, Tyler Bonsignore. Although the southpaw will be heading to Adelphi thi...
by Mike Merolle The @GCsports player of the game is Plainedge’s Matt Rosenberg. Rosenberg struck out 7 batters and allowed 0 runs helping Plainedge defeat MacArthur on Monday. pic.twitter.com/qIW69YjPji — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 1, 2024 It was a score only a pitcher could love. Plainedge defeated MacArthur, 1-0, at home in a non-league game to open the 2024 schedule. Tyler Bonsignore was on the mound for MacArthur and he was near perfect. Bonsignore had two strikeouts in both the first and second inning and three in the third. He opened the fourth inning with his eighth strikeout of the day but Plainedge’s bats retaliated. Bobby Wescott hit a solo home run to open the game’s scoring. The lefty-on-lefty blast put a dent in the scoresheet but Bonsignore closed the inning...

They have managed to do it every time, as they are undefeated, 14-0. The reigning Long Island Champs hoped to keep their streak alive as they faced the MacArthur Generals. Calhoun’s Danny Goodman had his best stuff today and kept the streak going for his squad as he dominated on the mound. Goodman was nothing but remarkable today. The southpaw tossed a complete game, striking out six, only allowing one earned run on just four hits. After an unearned ...
Kieran Kehoe and Mepham overcame a early 4-1 deficit and ultimately defeated MacArthur 8-7 to improve to 12-0 on the season. MacArthur and host Mepham squared off on Tuesday late afternoon, and by the time it was over, it was nearly dark but there was not one person in attendance that was not on the edge of their seat for the last two innings of the game. Even the last out of the game was recorded on a dropped third strike that required a long throw and close play at first base – but ...
