Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series Garden City captures the Nassau Class AA Championship with an 8-5 win over Bellmore JFK! pic.twitter.com/uPmwi3gBIF — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 31, 2025 Garden City (24-5) was a wagon in the postseason, rattling off eight consecutive wins en route to their first Long Island Championship since 2021. In the beginning, it did not appear it was going to go that way. In their first playoff game against MacArthur, who entered coming off a loss to New Hyde Park, they fell behind 6-1 in the bottom of the 6th. MacArthur was flying high following a grand slam by Nick Albert. The tides seemed to turn after that, however. The Trojan bats went to work and their bullpen held the fort as they held on f...

How about a Long Island-leading 10 home runs and leading your team to the Class AA Long Island Championship. For Garden City, it was a dream season as they not only captured the Long Island Championship over East Islip, but won eight consecutive playoff games along the way before finally losing in the Southeast Regional to Fox Lane. Evan Cabral, a Stony Brook-signee, was among the most dangerous hitters in the region and a huge reason for their success. He finished a decorated career with exactly 100 hits. He batted .380 in ...

Scratch out a run or two and lean on your pitching to do the rest. Garden City had other plans. Facing League IV MVP Thomas Costarelli and the top statistical pitching staff on Long Island, the Trojans erupted for nine runs across the fourth and fifth innings, storming past Suffolk Class AA champion East Islip, 10-5, to capture the Class AA Long Island Championship Thursday at Farmingdale State College. Zach Zander was the star of the show for the Trojans, pitching six innings of shutout baseball in which he struck out six and didn’t walk a single batter. After the game, Zander praised his defense, who turned two double plays during the game, and helped keep the Seahawks off the scoresheet. “It’s hard enough to pitch in the cold,” Zander said. “It makes it so much easier when you have seven guys behind you that are making...

Following Record Setting Season, Evan Cabral Looks to Lead Garden City Back to Postseason

Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Max Edelman In his sixth season with Garden City, head coach Dave Izzo guided his team into one of the most challenging conferences that Long Island has to offer. Izzo was able to take his team to a regular season conference championship before falling to Division in the playoffs. “We played in arguably the toughest conference on Long Island in my opinion.” Izzo said. “With Division, Calhoun and Carey. We won the conference regular season, which was great. We went into the last three game series of the season against Division and whoever won the series was conference champs and we beat them two out of three. But we saw them in the quarterfinals of the playoffs and they smoked us.” Garden City junior...

Where Are They Now: Matt Daley

Thousands upon thousands of boys grow up dreaming to play Major League Baseball. Very few are talented enough to even play at the collegiate level. Truly passionate baseball fans will still try to find a way into the industry through a position as a journalist, a scout or if they are intelligent enough, a front office position. Garden City alum Matt Daley is in the very, very small subsection of the baseball world that was both talented enough to play at the big league level while being intelligent enough to transition into a front office position for the New York Yankees. If that sounds difficult to do, that’s because it is. Most organization are looking for highly-educated individuals with economic degrees or MBAs as opposed to a former player that simply has an eye for talent. Daley, wh...

The Calhoun bats made the difference in this one but the early game had solid pitching by both sides.  Josh Cohen was on the mound for Garden City and his first inning went as any pitcher would dream. A strikeout and two quick outs assisted by the defense. The outing began to go south in the third as the Colts started putting runners on base. For Calhoun, Ryan Morash pitched the entire game and was efficient. Morash allowed early scoring but shut the door quickly a f...

GAME RECAP: Garden City Comes-From-Behind to Defeat Mineola, 4-3

Final: Garden City 4, Mineola 3 WP: Xander Palmer S: Matt Liberopoulos Aidan Walsh HBP to score go-ahead run pic.twitter.com/FpLQKSeaI7 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 15, 2023 No. 6 Garden City (15-3) hosted No. 11 Mineola (11-7) this afternoon on an absolutely perfect day in Garden City. The Trojans overcame a 3-1 deficit against a talented Mustangs team. There was not much offense at all in this game as there was a combined three hits and Mineola’s first hit came in the 7th inning. Garden City used a trio of left-handed pitchers to combine for the victory. They started ECU-commit Gabe Beschloss against Mineola’s RHP EJ Van Grembergen. Beschloss had his good velocity, but his command was not at its best today. He walked two batters in the first inning, although he ...
