2019 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-Region Teams Announced

As many people know, it was an extremely fruitful year for college baseball on Long Island. While it is easy to see the Division-I teams like Stony Brook on ESPN and a Division-II team in the College World Series, the success of the local Division-III teams can fly under the radar. It has been our mission at Axcess Baseball to shine a light on those programs and we do so by segments like the Fall Ball Series Presented by the Greene Turtle, or covering a double header in March, or having wall-to-wall coverage of the Skyline Conference tournament, or having the players compete in a Home Run Derby, or honored at an Awards Banquet. It’s good to see the players get recognized by outside publications too, though. The big one came out this week with ABCA/Rawlings releasing their All-Region ...

Nassau County Class AA Playoff Preview (Plus Predictions)

Ah, playoffs. The time of year we find out who rises to the top. In Class AA, there are no longer any play-in games, as it’s headed straight to the quarterfinals for a three-game series. There is a long way to go until the County Championship, but for now, let’s break down the remaining eight teams. Quarterfinals: #8 Baldwin vs. #1 Port Washington Considering Port Washington just swept Baldwin last week, this seems like an obvious choice. However, it’s playoffs.  Anything can happen. The main focal point throughout the postseason for the top-seeded Port Washington Vikings will be their pitching. Last week, they held Baldwin to two earned runs in three games. Their rotation consisting of Alex Chang, Derek Livingston and Jackson Sattinger shut down Baldwin last week, so exp...

Syosset Surges In Late Innings, Defeats Farmingdale 4-2

Before the game started, it was evident this was going to be a game of inches. The reason for that was because of the stellar pitching match up. Syosset called upon Tufts-commit Cameron Mayer to take the mound, while Farmingdale started ace Justin Rosner. Farmingdale got to Mayer first in the second inning, as Robbie Manetta delivered an RBI single to put them on the board. Mayer struggled a little in the early innings, but settled in as the game went on. In the bottom of the 3rd, Kev...

By Nick Frigerio Final: Farmingdale 4, Massapequa 1 WP: Justin Rosner (CG, 7 K) pic.twitter.com/kCKD7ax023 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 15, 2019 After a rough opening series against Oceanside last week, the Farmingdale Dalers were looking to get back in rhythm, as they took on rival Massapequa. The Dalers got just what they needed from their ace Justin Rosner, against a team that put up 71 runs last week against Hempstead. Rosner faced a tough Massapequa lineup and he was dominant as he struck out 7 and only allowed 1 earned run through 7 innings, in a 4-1 victory. From the start, it was obvious that Justin Rosner and Farmingdale were in control of this game. After a scoreless top half of the first, Massapequa had a runner in scoring position with two outs in the bottom of ...

Nassau County Class AA Preseason Power Rankings

With just a week until the official opening day, all teams will have a chance to compete in non-league action within the next few days. This year will be an interesting year in Class AA, as there are only 12 teams. Massapequa comes into the season looking to defend their back-to-back county championships, but will have their hands full in a tough conference AA1. With that being said, here are the top eight teams in Class AA. 8. Freeport After a 5-2 victory over Bellmore JFK in non-league action to begin their season, Freeport seems to be on the right track as far as competing. Viandy Abreu, Roberto Lizardo and Nelson Lozano will lead their ...

Farmingdale On The Verge Of A Potential County Championship Appearance

Over the past few years, Class AA has been controlled by dominant teams, followed by a few “on the bubble” teams. Constantly classified as an on the bubble team, Farmingdale is ready to change their fortune this season. “This year we need to get over that hill so we can look back, not up at our AA rivals which we have been battling with for the past number of years,” stated Head Coach Frank Tassielli. Following a 10-8 season where they fell to Oceanside in the semifinals, the Dalers know they are on the brink of a potential county championship appearance. Perhaps this is the year they finally get over that bump. The strength of this team is their pitching. Not only do they return several significant arms, but they can be considered one of best pitching staffs in Cla...

They held a 3-2 lead into the fifth inning of the NCAA Regionals against powerhouse Shenandoah, who spent eight consecutive weeks as the No. 1 ranked Div-III team in the country. They ultimately had their season cut short but they are in great position for another successful season. In addition to returning seven of their nine starters, they are also returning their entire starting rotation led by Rookie of the Year Travis Bruinsma and Anthon...

Nick Herzog and Bryan Kaufman Discuss Playing in College World Series

2017 has been a year to remember for two Long Island natives, Bryan Kaufman and Nick Herzog, while playing for UMASS-Boston. They put together a great season (38-12 overall record) that culminated in an appearance in the Div-III College World Series in Appleton, WI. They were able to win one game in the CWS, but ultimately had their dreams cut short by North Central College, 5-4. Kaufman, a senior pitcher from Farmingdale HS, had a stellar season. He compiled an ERA of 1.03 over 61.1 IP with an unblemished record of 3-0 with five saves. Herzog, a junior from Riverhead HS, compiled a slash line of .291/.385/.370 over 189 AB with 40 RBI.
