I’ve written about 2009 and 2010 in exhausting detail and I thought it was time to do the same for 2011. Admittedly, this is going to be much tougher to get through as I look back on those embarrassing memories. I’ve never felt as helpless on a mound as I did during my sophomore year of college and it’s the type of humiliation that is reserved especially for pitchers and comedians – those who have all eyes on you. It’s nine years later and even though I have moved on and into a new chapter in my life, it’s still cringeworthy to re-live those memories. It’s something I very rarely talk about, but it’s therapeutic to express it opposed to suppress it. So sit back and read about the most humbling and in some cases, humiliating, moments of my lif...
Farmingdale is onto the semifinals! FINAL: Farmingdale 8 Calhoun 1 WP – Justin Rosner (Complete game) pic.twitter.com/4sD41oRuzC — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 20, 2018 For the second time in the past ten days, Farmingdale was on the brink of elimination. Again, they came out on top. The Dalers defeated Calhoun by a score of 8-1 and secured a spot in the Class AA semifinals. When the pressure is at its climax, Justin Rosner always finds a way to stay calm. Once again, his best stuff came in an elimination game. The sophomore finished the day going the distance, allowing only one earned run while striking out nine. “Everything was working for me, my slider I like to keep them off balance to start them out and then come in hard with the fastball,” said Rosner. “Even if I’m ...
Like most people, I enjoy food. Not being able to dine-in at my favorite restaurants is frustrating. I’m definitely looking forward to once the stay-at-home order is lifted and I can go to Tap Room and The Meetball Place and Ciao Baby’s and Hummus Mediterranean and Brook House Deli the rest of the amazing places we have on Long Island. So yesterday I put up a simple question on Instagram which asked “which restaurant do you miss the most?” and here’s the responses. Some were asked to explain what they miss about it and here’s what they said. Chris Amato (St. Joseph’s) – Avocado’s Why: Avocado’s is a small Mexican American takeout restaurant located on Lakeland Avenue in Bohemia and has some of the best burritos on Long Island. Bei...
Final: Farmingdale 4, Massapequa 1 WP: Justin Rosner (CG, 7 K) pic.twitter.com/kCKD7ax023 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 15, 2019 After a rough opening series against Oceanside last week, the Farmingdale Dalers were looking to get back in rhythm, as they took on rival Massapequa. The Dalers got just what they needed from their ace Justin Rosner, against a team that put up 71 runs last week against Hempstead. Rosner faced a tough Massapequa lineup and he was dominant as he struck out 7 and only allowed 1 earned run through 7 innings, in a 4-1 victory. From the start, it was obvious that Justin Rosner and Farmingdale were in control of this game. After a scoreless top half of the first, Massapequa had a runner in scoring position with two outs in the bottom of the first for UNC...
Robbie Keane‘s played through sleet, through rain and through snow–but nothing quite like the wind today. The senior SS had a huge day at the plate in Farmingdale‘s 13-9 victory over previously undefeated Port Washington. He admitted it was aided–at least in part–by a 45+ MPH sustained wind through out the day. He smacked a game-tying three-run home run in the fifth inning to right to even the score, 8-8, and then the go-ahead two-run triple to left field to give Farmingdale a lead of 10-9. “It helped and hurt us a lot,” he said following the game. “In the field we had a lot of balls just swirling in the air–lot of balls we should’ve caught just dropped and it helped us a little when we were batting–balls just carried. I’ve never played in anything this bad,” he added. The pitching match ...
Walk-Off suicide squeeze by Tyler Schrimpf and Farmingdale wins it 2-1 in 9 innings ! pic.twitter.com/WRVLyyDZuc — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 23, 2019 (Editor’s Note: This article originally appeared on March 24, 2019.) The games were slated to be nine and seven innings, but that was not nearly enough to determine today’s winners. These are the two premier teams in the Skyline Conference at the moment, and the matchup more than lived up to the billing with a 13-inning and a 9-inning game, with the teams splitting the DH. Here’s how it went down: Game 1: This game appeared like the Rams would be in control all game. They scored two runs just three batters into the game, with RBI hits by Vinny Rice and Steven Burke, but that was all they would get for the game. USMMA st...
by Zevan Shuster Game 1 The Farmingdale State Rams defeated the Keene State Owls in their season opener, and in game one of a doubleheader, on Saturday, March 7th. In a back-and-forth game, the Rams prevailed, thanks in large part to 5 ⅔ shutout innings to end the game by junior Joe Wolf, and senior Nicholas Rooney. “It was something we learned last year, just keeping the zeros up on the board, even if someone goes out early,” Rooney said. “Even if someone goes out early, (our job is to) pick them up and let the team know that we’re going to keep them in the game, so that they can really grind through their at bats and make a comeback.” Farmingdale’s starting pitcher Thomas Messina did indeed struggle early, giving up three walks and a hit batter in the first inning, and more importantly,...
by Justin Joseph It’s not unusual for college athletes to work in restaurants to make some spending money. Louis Annunziata is no different than many college ballplayers in that regard. He is a freshman catcher on the baseball team at Farmingdale State College and he’s working hard to get a starting job on one of the best Division-III teams in the northeast region that just won 32 games. What makes his case more interesting is that his family owns “Patrizia’s of Long Island.” If you are from here and you enjoy great food, you are probably familiar with it. They have locations in Hicksville, Massapequa and Hauppauge and have essentially turned every visit into a huge family celebration. While their business is booming, he has his sights set on his playing career first. He has always loved t...
by Joseph Langan After two consecutive seasons with early playoff exits from Oceanside, Farmingdale High School is determined to rewrite their destiny and finally get over the hump. The Dalers are not a young team anymore but a team full of “seasoned vets who are looking to take us to the next step this year,” says Coach Frank Tassielli. WIth his returning core of veterans, Coach Tassielli realizes that changing up his normal routines and getting his players stronger and building more team character will propel them forwards in 2020. “This year we have switched up our strength and conditioning program in the hopes of seeing some gains on the field. Our pitchers did not begin to throw until January. We have always had great camaraderie during our winter workouts and that is where it all b...
While I was down at Farmingdale State College today, the biggest change I noticed about the reigning Skyline Conference Champs was not the roster but the field they were on. Having played there during the 2010 and 2011 seasons, then being back each subsequent season I am very familiar with the campus and the stadium. So it was very noticeable when I first saw the brand-new turf on the field. This was “long overdue” in the words of Head Coach Keith Osik. They made several more upgrades, including each of the bullpens, adding protective fence in front of the dugout, a brand-new scoreboard, batting cages and even brought in the outfield fences. Osik joked that “when the score is 3-2 in the ninth inning we’d like our guys to know they can put the ball out”, but ad...
When it comes to evaluating pitchers, the first thing many look for is size. Farmingdale RHP Will McCarthy certainly looks the part. The senior hurler stands at an imposing 6’5 207 lbs on the mound, and with his long strong it feels like he’s right on top of the hitter. He was one of the top 2020 pitchers available until this week, when he announced his commitment to Division-II powerhouse Southern Connecticut State University. He will pitch his senior year at Farmingdale with Justin Rosner atop the Dalers rotation, forming a formidable duo as they look to get over the hump in Nassau County Class AA. I had a chance to speak with him and here’s what he had to say… First off, congratulations on your college commitment–can you explain your experience with the col...
You may remember May of 2017 in the early days of Axcess Baseball when a fresh-faced freshman smoked a game-winning three-run HR to deliver a big victory for Farmingdale over Port Washington. Fast forward 27 months and that slugger is now entering his senior year, and is one of the well-respected all-around players on Long Island. Manetta, having been a middle-of-the-order hitter/starting catcher for the Dalers and some high-profile travel organizations, was one of the highly-sought after players entering this summer. He announced his verbal commitment to Albany this weekend, meaning the Dalers will trot out an all-America East battery on Opening Day next year with ace Justin Rosner (Binghamton-commit) likely receiving the start. I had a chance to speak with Manetta, and here’s what ...
