Eastport-South Manor Hoping Last Year’s Experience Equals Turnaround Season
In a little over one year, Eastport–South Manor went from the Class AA Finals to a 3-12 season. Graduating eight seniors from 2018 certainly did not help–including Axcess League 5 MVP Ryan Foran. There was a huge amount of roster turnover and the year did not go so well for them as they dropped to last place. Coach Jim McGowan has made some big changes this offseason, though, to make sure that the events of last year never happen again. “With 12 returning players, we put a team in a summer league where we were able to play the equivalent of a high school regular season,” McGowan said. “We also played a fall tournament together and have changed some of how we run our winter workouts.” Pitching was a big question mark heading into last season, but now McGowan says that the depth of arm...
Jake Deslauriers Fires 3-Hit Shutout Over Kings Park
It hasn’t been a great season for Eastport-South Manor, coming off an appearance in the Suffolk County AA Finals last May. You would never know by their performance today, as freshman Jake Deslauriers pitched mature beyond his years. The young RHP was efficient and dominant in a 4-0 shutout over a solid Kings Park team. He fired a three-hit shutout, not allowing a runner past second base in the game. “I really thought I would do well today,” he said. “That’s what I was planning to do. Eastport-South Manor Looks to Repeat 2018 Success with Young Roster
The Eastport-South Manor High School baseball team finished a successful 2018 season with a 20-7 record, winning the League 5 championship with a 15-5 league record but losing in the County Championship to West Islip. “Last year was a great year,” Eastport-South Manor head coach Jim McGowin said. “Lots of great guys.” The team lost eight seniors after last year, though, which brings up lots of questions about this year’s roster. “The big question mark for us is going to be our pitching,” McGowin said. “We have some big shoes to fill.” “[We had] arguably the best pitching staff in Suffolk Country,” he said.
