Now head coach Vincent Alversa will try to get his team over the hump. For head coach Vincent Alversa, a championship win over East Islip last season would have been the icing on the cake for a near-perfect campaign. “Last year was great...
by Trevor Dugan Top 1: East Hampton wasted no time – they hit 2 homers in the first inning (Mason Miles and Victor Eddie Aguero) to take a 3-0 lead as the rain begins to come down pic.twitter.com/DJ5wry59w8 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 23, 2025 This summer, East Hampton infielder Mason Miles committed to Bucknell University to play Division-I Baseball. He is part of a surge in college commitments from East Hampton High School in recent years – they currently have three in college from the 2025 class, they have three college commitments from the 2026 class – with a fourth on the way. They’ve come a long way from their 0-20 season less than a decade ago. Mason has a solid support system in place, both at East Hampton and as a member of Titans Baseball, o...

The Redmen’s historically dominant pitching staff entered Saturday’s County Finals allowing less than one run per game and recorded 10 shutouts on the season. Once Mike Tramaglini hit a two-run single through the middle in the bottom of the first, the game was pretty much decided. They sent junior LHP Lucas Patton to the mound, who entered with a 0.50 ERA. The southpaw, who relies on craft and not ove...

The Eastport-South Manor Sharks have fielded a young team all season, and somehow they continue to find ways to win. Both their wins in the Suffolk Class AA playoffs have come via walk-off, with the latest one on Friday night by sophomore Mason Gatchalian who ripped a double to right-center field to propel the top-seeded Sharks (22-0) to a 7-6 win in a winner’s bracket game against No. 4 East Hampton. “We’re ...
Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series By George Caratzas After back-to-back playoff appearances in 2022 and 2023, the East Hampton Bonackers missed the postseason in 2024 in a year that saw them finish 8-12. With head coach Vincent Alversa entering his tenth year at the helm, East Hampton is looking to return to success. Last year, the Bonackers undoing was an inexperienced pitching core, which is something that Alversa sees as a strength of this year’s roster. “I think last year was actually a bit better than what I was expecting with such a young staff,” Alversa said in an interview with Axcess Baseball. “We got a lot out of the fact that those guys gained some experience and we can move forward from there.” This year, Alversa has four high-ca...

The Bonackers qualified for the playoffs for the first time in eleven years and finished with an 11-9 record. Eighth year head coach Vincent Alversa, a former NCAA DIvision-III pitcher at Mitchell College, reflected on the progress made last season and how the program has evolved. “We have been developing the program for some time now and we believe we are just starting to come around. Playoff experience is big and we hope to build off of it and return again this season.” East Hampton will be without two key impact players in 2023. George Washington Co...
Playing on the east end of Long Island could present some inherent challenges for athletes as they fight to get the recognition they deserve over players more centrally located on the island. Aside from the geographic challenge to get college coaches at schools, there is always the question of the quality of the opponent so it can be tough to look at statistics and see what’s real. A big way to overcome that is through sheer hard work. Eventually, the cream rises to the top and when you get recognized or invited to major events – it legitimizes the hype. So when East Hampton RHP Colin Ruddy was invited to the Area Code Underclass Tournament this summer, it certainly made some waves. Ruddy committed to George Washington University this week, proving that Division-I athletes are ...
Corey Phelan is our @BsbLifestyle101 Player of the Game after throwing 5.1 IP in Harborfields’ 10-3 win over East Hampton pic.twitter.com/n1a7piO8op — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 24, 2019 Coming off yesterday’s low-scoring affair, Harborfields knew they needed to bounce back with a win at home and they answered the challenge with a 10-3 win over East Hampton on a gorgeous day in Greenlawn. They fell behind 1-0 in the third on an RBI single by Kurt Matthews. The offense was dormant for the first two innings against East Hampton starter Colin Ruddy, but they got going in the third inning. Luke Mee hit a one-out single and moved to second on a walk to Jack Greco. Sean Keys tied it up on a bloop single to left field and James Romanelli gave them the lead with a singl...
(Photo Credit: Craig Macnaughton ) With a young team, wins don’t come easy. But young teams bring more experience to the table the following season. After a three-win 2018 season, East Hampton High School baseball head coach Vincent Alvera said the youth of the team was the story line last season. “We had a pretty young squad,” Alvera said. “We only lost three seniors last year. Now we have four seniors.” “We were so young it wasn’t really going together,” he added. The team was on a 51-game losing streak before winning their final three games of the 2018 season. “It was nice to get away with a win,” Alvera said. “It was a good way to end the season and hopefully bring that into this year.” In 2019, the team is led by junior Elian Abreu, who spends time on the mound as well as in the outfi...
