Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s season preview series by Max Edelman For the second consecutive year, the St. Dominic’s Bayhawks won the catholic league regular season championship, and for the second year in the row, they fell just short of their goal of a championship at the end of the playoffs, falling in the semifinals to eventual champions Kellenberg. “We got knocked out in the semifinals for the second straight year.” Head coach Joe Fusco said. “Back to back conference champions, and both years we were knocked out a game before the championship.” The main loss for the Bayhawks heading into 2026 will be the graduation of superstar pitcher Luke Lang, who posted a 6-0 record with a 1.57 ERA across 44.1 innings pitched, a two-time catholi...

Two outs away from beginning its championship quest in the loser’s bracket for a second straight season, Chaminade exploded for a stunning seven-run seventh inning, rudely greeting the Bayhawk bullpen. The rally was punctuated by a bases-clearing triple off the bat of Nolan Fernandez, giving the Flyers a lead they wouldn’t surrender. “When I got to the plate, I understood the situation and the magnitude of it,” Fernandez told Axcess Baseball after the game. “With two st...

The winning pitcher, Luke Lang, who is committed to play at Iona University, pitched one of the best games of his season, even to his extremely high standards. Lang tossed s...
In 2021, Huntington had the perfect recipe for ending their 61-year County Championship drought with a victory over Bay Shore before losing to Garden City in a extremely hard-fought Class II Long Island Championship at Mitchel Field. Incredibly, it was their first postseason appearance since 2005 and they were rewarded as 8 players garnered All-League recognition and Coach Bill Harris earned Conference II Coach of the Year. Truth be told, Huntington would’ve had a legitimate shot to win the year before, had there been a season in 2020. They had an exceptionally talented team that had all played together as sophomores in 2019. Coach Bill Harris noted that they lost some one-run games but played very well. When the Town of Brookhaven hosted their tournament in July 2020, they went toe-...
