Head coach Tom Tuttle and the Blue Dragons put together another successful campaign a year ago, but it fell short of their usual title-winning expectations. Despite going 17-7, Division narrowly missed out on a trip to the semifinals and had its three-year streak of fielding Diamond Award w...
(Editor’s Note: This article was originally published in March 2025) by Patrick Duryea There’s not many more exciting spectacles then when a large crowd gathers at a high school sporting event. Baseball games will have a tough time rivaling football unless it’s a championship or the crowd consists of scouts watching the next draft pick. But in Levittown, when two of their high school’s square off, “sold out crowd” is an understatement. The storied history of the town is matched evenly with a rich tradition of baseball success at their three schools: Division, MacArthur, and Island Trees. The history of all three schools is filled with winning coaches, championships, and Long Island baseball heroes. All within one town this has created incredible rivalries and atmospheres over the yea...
(Editor’s Note: This is the third installment of the ‘Where Are They Now’ series in which we highlight standout players from the past. Previously, we featured Mike Ambort and Kraig Binick. Thanks to Complete Sports Performance for sponsoring this year’s series.) There was no local indoor training facility to do winter workouts. There wasn’t even a batting cage in the school. Legendary coach Doug Robins was resourceful, though. He found an area in the boiler room to hang tarp and he used tennis balls that were donated to the team. That was all they needed. They swung until their hands bled. That is the grittiness that separated Levittown Division from just about every other program. During their peak years in the 1990s, they won 47 consecutive games, back-to-ba...
Photo Credit: Newsday/Bill Davis 29-0. There’s a beauty in perfection. It is elusive in the game of baseball – a game that is designed to include failures and to humble every player. For Division Ave HS in 1996, there was no such failures. The Blue Dragons went wire-to-wire not losing one game. In fact, they only played in one game that was decided by one run. They scored 325 runs during the regular season and often were up by double digits before their starting pitcher took the mound. And their starting pitchers usually only needed one or two runs to begin with. One of their starters, James Bailin, was untouchable that season as he fired 4 no-hitters – including three in a row at one point. Bailin was the recipient of the coveted Diamond Award given to the top pitcher in Nassau County. Al...

Division moves to 4-3 in league play, and MacArthur drops to 5-2. pic.twitter.com/3puGAAn0rp — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 21, 2025 A dominant pitching performance by Division Blue Dragons starter Jefferson Biener and dominant third and fifth innings powered the Blue Dragons past the MacArthur Generals 9-1. With the home victory, the Blue Dragons move to 6-4 overall with a 4-3 league record, while the Generals drop to 7-3 overall with a 5-2 league record. Biener went the distance for the Blue Dragons, tossing seven innings off one run ball, allowing only four hits and struck out seven while not walking a single batter. Alex Darzano started on the mound for the G...

Back-to-back !! 🏆 🏆 Division captures the Nassau County Class AA Finals – they will face Hauppauge next Saturday pic.twitter.com/bOGnOvzE6L — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 26, 2024 Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Vin Messana 50 wins and back-to-back Nassau County Championships for Division in the past two seasons. But for Head Coach, Tom Tuttle, the losses in the Long Island Championships sting. “There’s no question it stings,” said Tuttle, who has been at the helm since 2007. “In both Long Island Championships, we lost in the last inning. Out of 14 innings, we had two bad innings. Twice we didn’t make a defensive play. The unfortunate thing is, we are built to win a two of three. The...
The game of baseball is littered with stories of players that peaked at a young age and gradually fizzled out as their peers caught up with their size and ultimately were never the same. It is a breath of fresh air when a player is the inverse of that, somebody that was constantly overlooked and always outworked the competition. Big Congratulations to 2021 Titan, Nick Roselli on being drafted in the 11th round by the New York Mets! Nick is a kid that never gets out worked. He truly deserved this! For Hauppauge, they were trying to capture their first ever Long Island Championship, and for perennial powerhouse, Division, they were looking to avenge last years Long Island Championship loss, in which they led for most of the game, but ultimately lost to West Babylon. In their biggest game in program history, Hauppauge gave the ball to St. Thomas Aquinas-commit Matt Neglia, who has...

How they got here: After finishing as the No. 6 seed, Division entered the playoffs with a chip on their shoulder, determined to prove doubters wrong and continue their run as one of the league’s dominant forces. They’ve done just that, getting hot at the right time and going 5-0 while scoring 47 runs in those games. For Kennedy, they’ve enjoyed one of the best seasons in school history. They faced off against two gritty opponents, Manhasset and Carey...
by Tucker Terranova Christian Valera breaks down what worked for him today in Division’s 11-1 win pic.twitter.com/b1oK9UqEMp — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) May 20, 2024 In the second game of their three-game series, No. 6 Division faced off against No. 5 Long Beach in front of their home crowd with the opportunity to advance to the championship round and retain their title as Class AA County Champions. After starting the tournament with a 4-0 record and a commanding +28 run differential, Division seamlessly carried their momentum into Game 2. Eight of the nine starters reached base, five of them had multi-RBI afternoons, and Christian Varela shut down the Long Beach offense en route to an 11-1 win that only required five innings. Looking to rebound after dropping the series opener ...
