Tommy Morton Finds Strength in Pursuing Dream of Playing College Baseball

Tommy Morton (North Babylon 2026) gets the start for Dodgers Nation and throws a scoreless first inning pic.twitter.com/YhDwP2IDZT — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) September 16, 2023 It would certainly be understandable, expected even, to miss a baseball practice when you receive the news that your father passed away unexpectedly on a business trip. Tommy Morton was just 12-years-old at the time when his world was turned upside down. He was the oldest of four children, with the youngest being just a couple months old. Steve Corrado, longtime head varsity baseball coach at North Babylon, was shocked to see Tommy at the little league clinic at the high school the next day. Observations from Dodgers Nation Workout

This past week I spent the afternoon observing the Dodgers Nation team workout at LI Sports Dome – which consisted of their top 14 and 15u teams. The workout was led by Al Marrazzo – the Lynbrook varsity head coach. The team began the day working on a bevy of base running and infield defense. Additionally, the pitchers threw bullpen sessions and all hitters took a few rounds of BP. Observations From Dodgers Nation Workout on Sunday

Since their inception four years ago, Dodgers Nation has gradually morphed into one of the top organizations on Long Island culminating in a Number 15 ranking for the Mid-Atlantic by Perfect Game at the 17u level. Christian Byrnes, founder of the organization, is very pleased with their progress. “We’re going to be very good at most of our age groups this year,” said Byrnes. Aside from their 17u team coached by Sean Burns, he is also expecting a very strong 14u team coached by Al Marazzo as well as 9u and 10u. He stated that the 9u team is coming off a great season in which they won the LI Hot Stove League and the 10u team got some new talented players into the program this winter. It’s become common to be at a Perfect Game or any local tournament and see one of the...
