(Editorâs Note: This article was originally published in January 2025) Chaminade has had many dominant seasons in their programâs rich history. You donât have to turn back the clock too far to look at their 2022 season as possibly their greatest season. If thatâs Number 1, then right behind it is their 2011 team. They won the CHSAA Championship over St. Dominic in a thrilling 3-game series and had 13 players that went onto play collegiately. They finished the season 21-5. It was a team that was accustomed to winning, who had won their championship as freshmen and sophomores but came up short in the 2010 playoffs. While the years have gone on, their legacy will go down as one of the best teams that Long Island has seen. Their starting shortstop, Thomas Roulis, would be named Co-Player...
There was a time when NY Tech was among the best programs in the region. During the legendary career of Bob Hirschfield, who received Axcess Baseballâs Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024, he won over 660 games, had 4 ABCA All-Americans and sent dozens of players to pro ball. One of their best players in program history was Kraig Binick, who was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles following a stellar four-year career for the Bears in which he was named the Division-I Independent Player of the Year in 2007 after batting .406 with a 1.123 OPS. Binickâs name is all over the programâs record book, finishing with the most triples (13), second most runs scored (175), second most hits (270) and third most stolen bases (114). It wasnât always a slam dunk, however, that his futu...
Axcess Baseball is excited to announce that Mike Pienkos is the recipient of the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award. Simply put, Pienkos was synonymous with Chaminade baseball for 45 years. Most people do not realize that he holds the distinction of being the head coach of four varsity sports â football, golf, bowling and baseball. It was on the diamond where he was most successful. He began as the JV baseball coach in 1981. That team went 10-3 and tied for first place. The following year, 1982, he took over as the varsity baseball coach. Pienkos met Jack Lyons in 1983 and he was his assistant since that time. From there, they made Chaminade into the powerhouse program that they are known for today. They went to 24 League Finals, winning 16 Championships and the first ever New York State...

Two outs away from beginning its championship quest in the loserâs bracket for a second straight season, Chaminade exploded for a stunning seven-run seventh inning, rudely greeting the Bayhawk bullpen. The rally was punctuated by a bases-clearing triple off the bat of Nolan Fernandez, giving the Flyers a lead they wouldnât surrender. âWhen I got to the plate, I understood the situation and the magnitude of it,â Fernandez told Axcess Baseball after the game. âWith two st...
