Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Ryan Manno The message from head coach Steve Laurino is clear: the goal is another county championship. After capturing their first Class B title since 2003 last season, the Carle Place Frogs aren’t satisfied with making history once. They want to do it again. Last year’s 18-7 campaign ended with the Frogs on top, but it also reinforced how demanding playoff baseball can be. Laurino emphasized the importance of staying healthy and mentally sharp through a long season. Facing the same opponents six or seven times, seeing the same pitchers, and handling the physical toll of postseason play taught this group that talent alone isn’t enough. Maintaining focus and discipline deep into the playoffs is now ...

After years of his teammates watching him deliver, the confidence was earned. Schoch wasn’t just Carle Place’s ace—he was the conference’s best player. The junior turned in one of the most complete seasons in program history, posting a 1.40 ERA with 38 strikeouts in 35 innings while batting .333 with 20 RBIs and six stolen bases. The performance ea...
Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s series by Adrianna Armani After a strong showing in 2024 that saw the Carle Place baseball team reach the county semifinals, head coach Steve Laurino believes his squad is poised for a championship run this season. With a talented core of returning players and a rigorous offseason training program, the Frogs are determined to bring home their first county title in 22 years. Carle Place pushed Wheatley to three games in last season’s semi finals before falling short. Wheatley ultimately went on to win the County and Long Island championships. However, Laurino sees that playoff battle as a key stepping stone for his team. “We had a lot of young players step up last year, and the good news is most of them are ba...
by Aaron Diaz Special thanks to Metamorphosis Landscape Design for sponsoring this year’s season preview series. In Steve Laurino’s first year as head coach of the Carle Place Frogs, he led the team to a 6-17 record including the playoffs for the 2023 season. Carle Place made it to the semis after a first-round playoff series win against Locust Valley but fell to a dominant Seaford team in the second round. With playoff experience on their hands, Coach Laurino is excited about their chances in 2024. “We came out slow to start the season,” Laurino said. “We had a tough non-league schedule but came off strong at the right time of the year. So this year I’m excited and I think we have a good chance to make a run. We’re a team that can make some noise again and go even furth...
It’s only fitting that Luke Filippi handles it himself to end the game and win the Class C Long Island Championship for Port Jefferson pic.twitter.com/lmcrT5AE96 — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 3, 2022 There’s no question that Luke Filippi has been the best player on the field in every game that he’s played this season. The Albany-commit finished the regular season with an unblemished ERA of 0.00 and struck out nearly two batters per inning. Detractors may question the level of competition in League 8, but the reality is that he has been head-and-shoulders above his peers in every way possible. He continued his remarkable season as he helped lead the Port Jefferson Royals to their first Class C Long Island Championship since 2008. The League MVP allowed only a...
This year was bizarre from the jump – so I understand that a lot of decisions had to be made for the first time. That much is true. That still doesn’t mean that common sense doesn’t apply. So when Nassau and Suffolk each switched up their conference formats for this season, there was going to be a decision that needed to be made. At the most basic level, Nassau had five conference and Suffolk had six. That would be fine if there was no Long Island Championship involved, but once they decided that June 20th would be the Long Island Championship day – they needed a way to even it out. According to my source, the conventional wisdom would suggest that Nassau Conference V would play a playoff like the other leagues – top 2 get byes, 3 v 6 and 4 v 5 in the first ro...
FINAL: Seaford 10 Carle Place 1 pic.twitter.com/JIPUlU1VJT — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) March 28, 2019 On Thursday afternoon, Seaford crushed Carle Place 10-1 in a non-league contest. From the beginning of this game, Seaford’s offense was clicking on all cylinders. Tim Saulpaugh drove in the game’s first run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the 1st. Saulpaugh finished 2-3 on the day with 2 RBI. “We were seeing the ball well and we kept hitting the ball hard staying calm and relaxed getting a lot of guys on base,” said Saulpaugh. “In the field we played very nice didn’t make many errors and we looked very good today in our season opener,” he added. Seaford tacked onto their lead with two more in the third inning, courtesy of a Nick Barreri...
