Dom Romano’s Walk-Off Infield Single Caps Remarkable Pitcher’s Duel

Ryan Degnan struck out 14, allowing just one hit and one walk and Carey won on a walk-off infield single in the bottom of the 7th pic.twitter.com/bgpt0MdTQG — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) April 25, 2022 For six innings, there was virtually zero offense. And then the game really started. Carey’s Ryan Degnan and Calhoun’s Brian Chin were locked in an epic pitcher’s duel that featured dueling no-hitters with a combined 21 strikeouts through six innings. Neither pitcher would blink. Chin did it himself in the top of the seventh inning. He led off with a double to left field in which the throw by left fielder Jayden Gigante beat him, but he was able to slide under the tag to get himself into scoring position to start the inning. The next batter, Charlie Imhof, bunted h...

Jack Temple’s Heroics Propel South Side to Semifinals

by Andrew Connors Jack Temple’s 7th inning, go-ahead 3-R HR to propel South Side to the dramatic 8-7 win over Carey pic.twitter.com/ezbTx0uUnA — Axcess Baseball LI (@axcessbaseball) June 11, 2021 There are two magic words around this time of year and those two words are playoff baseball. The game between the South Side Cyclones and Carey Seahawks on Thursday night was the embodiment of those magic words as it was a back-and-forth dogfight the entire game that resulted in a dramatic 8-7 victory for South Side. Both sides had taken and lost the lead multiple times by the end of the game, but only one was strong enough to come together when it truly mattered.  Daniel Russell was the starting pitcher for South Side and he quickly realized that the intensity for this game would be through...

After nearly batting around in the first inning, this meant that the middle of the Garden City lineup was due up once again in the second. With two runners on base, Andrew Zupicich ...

Jay Schlaefer got the start for Manhasset and did a fantastic job of shutting down the...

Carey Looking To Progress Towards A Deep Playoff Run

(Photo Credit: J. Heck/Herald) Led by first year Head Coach Doug Robins, Carey will be looking to take  the next step as a program. In recent years, Carey has found themselves in the postseason but hasn’t made it very far into May. Last season, Carey beat Hewlett and Mineola in the first two rounds, but fell to a talented Division team in the quarterfinals. This year they will try to change their fortune. Conference A2 serves as a division with an equal amount of talented teams. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how Carey fits in with their competition. In the past few years, Carey has been known for constantly being among the league leaders in home runs. The reason behind this is because of the big bats in their lineup, along with the short porch in right field. In 2016, Anth...
