One of the signs of a great pitcher is dominating the top competition. Brian Morrisey certainly did that today in Commack’s 7-0 shutout over League 2 rival Connequot. The Stony Brook-commit struck out 14 batters, allowing only two hits, walking two and hitting one batter as the Cougars improved to 4-0 on the season after last week’s sweep of Central Islip. He was fired up, displaying tons of raw emotion after his clutch strikeouts. “I just wanted the team to be pumped as much as I was,” said the aXcess pre-season top 30 player. “First series was more of an easy sweep, we had some fun but this series we wanted to come back out really good,” he added. Ryan Levenberg Outduels Brad Camarda, Hauppauge Wins 4-2

Freshman Ryan Levenberg stole the show in today’s League 5 match up between two perennial playoff contenders. Even more impressive, he out dueled 2016 Long Island win leader and Hofstra-commit Brad Camarda. Hauppauge came away with the 4-2 victory over Hills West. “Ryan did a great job of keeping them off balance,” said Head Coach Josh Gutes. “They hit some hard balls–just right at us, so we might’ve been a little lucky in that regard because Hills West is a fantastic team and they’re tremendously well-coached,” he added. St. Joseph’s Shuts Out Maritime in Crucial Skyline Double Header

The St. Joseph’s Golden Eagles had everything going right for them on Sunday as they took two 7-0 wins over Maritime. The pitching was stellar and the top of the order was electric.These two conference wins were huge for the Golden Eagles as they move to 13-7 on the season with a 7-1 conference record. These two teams will presumably be battling for the Skyline Conference up to the end of the season. You couldn’t have asked the top of the Golden Eagles’ order to be more productive in game one. Hometown teams put together an 11-6 record on Saturday. A number of teams that were struggling out of the gate are beginning to find their way. As we are getting deeper into the season, we have a decent image of where these teams stand for this season and what their identities are. Molloy Sweeps Queens In DH, Walks Off In Game Two

After nearly eight hours of baseball Molloy walked off with two conference wins against Queens College. A 31 run hit parade and an extra inning showdown featuring a huge walk off comprised the dramatic doubleheader today. Queens struck first in both games, scoring two in the first inning of game one on a fielder’s choice and another on a bases-loaded hit by pitch. They added two more in the second on a double by shortstop Joel Mendez and a sacrifice fly from Jon Temenak. Molloy answered with two of their own on a Ryan Dillon single in the third, but nearly all of Molloy’s 18 runs came in the third. An exciting April night as St. John’s nearly plays two games in one, Farmingdale sweeps a doubleheader, and the bats spring to life for Stony Brook and both Nassau and Suffolk County Community Colleges Division I St. John’s Wins 14 Inning Marathon vs Creighton Creighton jumped out to an early two-run lead, but St. John’s fought back and pulled out a win in extra innings. The Red Storm’s pitching settled in after a rocky first to shut down Creighton’s bats for the subsequent 13 innings, giving St. John’s a chance to win in the top of the fourteenth. Not a bad start to the varsity career for University of Miami-commit Jason Diaz. The sophomore fired three perfect innings with seven strikeouts during an overpowering outing this afternoon against St. Mary’s in a mercy win for Kellenberg. The reigning CHSAA champs wasted no time getting the offense going with a huge first inning. After back-to-back walks to Terrance Murray and Andrew Steidle, third-place hitter Justin Renner brought them both in with a long HR to left to make it 3-0. After Nick Quatromani reached on an error and James May walked, Diaz reached on an error to load up the bases. Two shorthanded teams squared off this afternoon in Smithtown. Stony Brook arrived with exactly nine players, and Smithtown Christian lost two starters to injuries during warm ups. Stony Brook starter Joe Wozny opened up the scoring in the top of the first with a two-run double to left. A single by clean-up hitter Ben Tutuska added one more, and a misplayed grounder turned it into a 4-0 game. Wozny took to the mound in the next inning and gave up two runs, one on a single to Giuseppe Crilly, and another on a fielders choice with the bases loaded. Anytime you are going against an opposition’s ace, you have to do the little things. Clarke executed well, stealing six bases in their 4-0 victory against Harrison Cohen and Cold Spring Harbor. Their starter, Vinny Trovato, fired a four-hit shutout with only 99 pitches. “He mixes everything, said Head Coach Tom Abruscato. “He did that in a playoff game for us last year. Conference opponents Farmingdale State and SUNY Old Westbury split two vastly different–but dramatic–games in a doubleheader today. Farmingdale out-slugged Westbury 10-9 in game one, while Westbury won game two, a pitching duel by the score of 2-1 on a walk-off walk. Game one began as a pitching duel, Matthew Constantine and Trey Pizzutello shut down both side for three innings before the bats broke through. The collegiate baseball season is now in full swing and we are legitimately starting to see some improvement for the hometown clubs. After a 6-6 day on Saturday, the local teams are beginning to show significant improvement since the start of the year. With the weather getting warmer, these teams will look to throw their seasons into a full spin and heat up as we are now in April. St. John’s hits 20 wins with victory over Hofstra We had two of the top local programs competing on Saturday and the two kept it close as the Johnnies took the win 4-1 over Hofstra. St. John’s has not cooled down at all–ranking fifth in the nation sitting at 20-2 on the season whereas Hofstra has struggled getting their feet off the ground posting a 7-17 record so far.
