The old adage is that pitching wins championships and that was certainly the case for Plainedge in 2026.
The Red Devils used a dominant 1-2 combo of Taylor Nitsch and Jaxson Torres to capturing their first Nassau County and Long Island Class A Championship since 2012. In fact, they were just one win away from completing a perfect season.
Nitsch: 12-1 record, 0.89 ERA, 70 IP, 36 H, 9 ER, 134 Ks, 0.78 WHIP
Torres: 11-0 record, 1.03 ERA, 67.2 IP, 17 H, 122 Ks, 0.56 WHIP, fired 3 consecutive no-hitters.
They are co-winners of the 2026 Axcess Cy Young Award Powered by The Arm Academy.
These players will receive their awards at our annual Awards Banquet on Saturday, November 7.
In total, Plainedge had an incredible 5 players receive All-State honors – an unheard of amount.
Nitsch is currently a freshman at Towson University while Torres is preparing for his senior season with Plainedge. He is committed to Arizona State University and is the reigning Class A New York State Player of the Year.
