Suffolk County Hosts All-County Dinner

Suffolk County Coaches Association hosted their annual All-County Dinner on Wednesday, June 17 at the East Wind in Wading River.

The top individual awards were also bestowed upon a trio of standout performers.

Carl Yastrzemski Award – The 58th annual award is given annually to the top player in Suffolk County. Eleven previous award winners have played in the Major Leagues, with one (Josh Knoth) very likely to appear in the future. This year’s recipient was Stony Brook-commit Shane Meehan, who is the first winner from Sayville. He helped lead the Golden Flashes to the Class A Suffolk County and Long Island Championship in 2025.

As a senior, he helped lead the Golden Flashes to the League VI Championship while compiling an overall record of 18-6. He batted .486 with a .557 OBP, 4 HRs, 25 RBIs, 28 runs scored and 12 stolen bases. He was also an iron man, starting every game behind the dish and curtailing the running game to the tune of 40 percent caught stealing.

Paul Gibson Award – The annual award is given to the top pitcher in Suffolk County. There is always plenty of competition for this award considering the abundance of talented pitchers in our region. This year’s recipient was Smithtown East senior RHP Dylan Cogliano. The Virginia Wesleyan-commit went 6-0 with a 0.51 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 64 KS over 41 innings. Remarkably, he helped opposing batters to just 12 hits.

Cogliano really put himself on the radar early in the season with a no-hitter against Newfield and followed that up with a 16-strikeout masterpiece the following outing against Copiague.

He is the first winner in program history, although last year they did have the League III MVP in Sean Fanning.

Blue Chip Silver Slugger – It was a dominant season for the Center Moriches Red Devils who defeated Oyster Bay in the Class B Long Island Championship for their first title since 2022. Leading their offensive charge was senior 1B Max Rayburn.

Rayburn batted .496 with a .650 OBP, 1.630 OPS, 8 HRS, 35 RBIs, 39 runs scored and 17 steals. The five-year varsity player left an indelible impact on Center Moriches and caused nightmares for opposing pitchers.

The Red Devils went 20-4 and had their season cut short in the NYS semifinals.
