USG used their high-octane offense to come-from-behind against a talented NY Longhorns EP team to win the 2026 Axcess World Series.
Trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, USG was undeterred and exploded for seven runs with the big knock coming on a game-tying two-run single by Teagan Cardona. They would ultimately take the lead on a bases loaded walk by pinch-hitter Evan Frangas on a close 3-2 pitch.
Ryan Yormack slammed the door with a quick 7th inning. His brother, Derek, started and pitched a scoreless first inning with 3 punch outs.
USG relied on their relentless offense all weekend winning big over some formidable opponents. In the semifinals, they raced out to an 11-3 lead against Dodgers Nation Select before hanging on 11-7 to punch their ticket against the Longhorns, who were equally as dominant in winning their first 4 games of the tournament.
Chris Sultana was the star offensively, homering in four consecutive at bats on Sunday en route to being named the MVP of the tournament. The Stony Brook-commit also helped lead Massapequa to the Class AAA NYS Championship in June.
Among the other storylines from the weekend was the dominance of the SB Aviators, which was comprised of the Stony Brook School national players. They went 3-0 in pool play but opted out of the playoffs. Clemson-commit Vaughan Steinert homered twice for them and freshman SS Maykel Jimenez crushed a grand slam.
Special thanks to the Town of Brookhaven for hosting the event, to the 10 colleges that were in attendance and to Jon Mauchan from Rawlings.
