Northeast Aces Cruise to Run-Rule Victory in Hot Stove Summer League Action

by Nicholas DiLapi

In the Hot Stove Summer League 14u American Division, the Northeast Aces White (5-2) took on the West Warriors Orange (0-7) at Baldwin Park on July 10th. After a delayed start due to some travel issues for the Aces, the game started about 10 minutes after the 6:00 PM start time.

The Aces went out onto the diamond to start the game, and there was some uncertainty due to their late arrival and very short warmup. However, they came out as sharp as possible.

Timmy Shen, the starting pitcher for the Aces, was not impacted in the slightest by the delay or travel issues. Shen struck out 3 batters in the 1st inning, in order.

Entering the bottom of the 1st, the Aces’ concern regarding their play was slighted, but it was soon to be eliminated. After back to back walks and stolen bases to put runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs, a sacrifice fly from Jack Kurland gave them a quick 1-0 lead. Louis D’Ambrosio, the extra hitter, followed with an RBI knock to make it 2-0.

With back to back hits and only 1 out, the Aces were wide awake. A walk and double steal put runners at 2nd and 3rd for the pitcher Shen, who was in his groove. He hit a ball right past the first baseman for an RBI single, making it 3-0 with just 1 man away.

An RBI walk followed, then a 2-run double from Harry Theodos made it a 7-0 lead after just 1 inning, that consisted of 3 hits and 6 walks.

Nearly 40 minutes after the scheduled first pitch, the second inning was starting. Despite the Warriors having runners at the corners, Shen got out of trouble and maintained the 7-run lead.

The Aces stuck to what worked for them in the 1st inning, working back to back walks and a double steal, but this time Thomas DiMisa notched an RBI single.

Shen brought home another run on a defensive miscue from the Warriors, bringing the lead to 9-0.

DiMisa scored just after on a wild pitch, and Rincon made it to the plate safely during a run down when a ball was thrown too high for the catcher. 11 runs through just 2 innings for the Aces, who were playing up to their expectations.

Another perfect inning for Shen featured 2 strikeouts, only making vibes even higher for the Aces.

With just one man on base and 1 out, it seemed possible that the Warriors could get out of an inning with no runs allowed. But then, a series of RBI hits, wild pitches, and more defensive mistakes, led to a 17-0 lead for the Aces, highlighted by a 2 run single for Theodos, bringing home his 3rd and 4th batters of the day.

Needing just 3 more outs for a mercy win, Shen turned a double play for 2 outs, and ended the game on his 6th strikeout of the day, wrapping up a 4 inning 17-0 win for the Aces.

Timmy Shen limited the Warriors to just 2 hits and 1 walk, while punching out 6 batters, in his 4 inning shutout win.

The Aces move up to an impressive 6-2 record in the division, while the Warriors fall to 0-7.

The Aces will return to play in a matchup against Dodgers Nation Fauci on July 13, at 8:15 PM, while the Warriors will face off against the Elite Showcase Giovanakis on that same night, at 8:00 PM.
