Dodgers Nation Pilgrim Rallies from Six-Run Deficit for 8-7 Walk-Off Win

by Hunter Javeline

In what will be remembered as one of the most thrilling Hot Stove matchups of the summer, Dodgers Nation Pilgrim 15U rallied from a six-run deficit to secure an 8-7 walk-off victory over BBP Satelite 15U at St. Joseph’s University. Fans were on the edge of their seats as the game delivered late-inning excitement all the way to the final play.

For the first two innings, both pitching staffs were in control, keeping the game scoreless. However, everything changed in the top of the third inning as BBP Satelite erupted for six runs to take a commanding 6-0 lead.

The scoring began when Robert Lenz crossed the plate on a wild pitch to put BBP Satelite on the board. The momentum snowballed from there as Hayden Northrop ripped a ground ball through the 5-6 hole, driving in two runs. Jack Hope followed with an RBI single to extend the lead. This big inning continued as Nick Santiago hit a line drive to left field to add another run. Nico Micalizzi later scored on a wild pitch, capping off the six run frame and leaving Dodgers Nation trailing 6-0.

Dodgers Nation Pilgrim responded in the bottom of the third when Robert Bosiacki was hit by a pitch and Dylan Esposito singled to center to set the stage. Jacob Lopez lifted a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Bosiacki to tag up and score the team’s first run. The next batter, Joao Velasquez, lined an RBI single to left, trimming the deficit to 6-2.

In the top of the fourth, Marc Lamonica hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Parker Cole. The lead increased to 7-2.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Dodgers chipped away again. Nicholas Brandt singled to second base and advanced on a single by Tommy Vacca. Jack Clarity then lined an RBI single to left field that scored Brandt. Frankie Simone scored on a passed ball, narrowing the gap to 7-4.

After a quiet fifth inning on both sides, Dodgers Nation continued its steady comeback in the bottom of the sixth. Jacob Lopez and Joao Velasquez both singled to start the inning. They advanced to second and third on a wild pitch. Then, another wild pitch allowed one run to score, while a throwing error by the catcher brought home the second. Just like that, it was a one-run game, 7-6.

Dodgers Nation allowed the first two batters to get on in the top of the seventh on walks, and then Jack Clarity came in and retired the next three batters to keep it a one-run ball game.

Lucas Perry of BBP Satelite was pulled after pitching 6.0 innings, allowing 3 earned runs and striking out 5. The first batter of the inning grounded out to second base. Nate Kim lined a single to center field. On the first pitch, he stole second base and then later in the same at-bat, he advanced to third. The tying run stood on third base when Hunter Milea hit a line drive single past the shortstop, scoring Kim from third. Then Robert Bosiacki was hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second with one out. Milea and Bosiacki advanced to second and third on a passed ball. Dylan Esposito came up clutch, driving in Milea from third on a ground ball to the second baseman.

Jake Shevlin for Dodgers Nation entered the game in the third inning to try and stop BBP Satelite’s offensive explosion. Shevlin allowed 1 run and had 4 strikeouts in his 3.1 innings of work. His long relief performance gave Dodgers Nation the chance to come back and win the game.

Dodgers Nation Pilgrim completed the comeback, winning 8-7 over BBP Satelite in dramatic walk-off fashion.
