With the newly-implemented NCAA Division-I roster limit of 34 players, there is certainly a premium on spots that didn’t previously exist. Teams will find clever ways to adapt. One way is to have more 2-way players that will contribute on the mound and at the plate.

While it remains way too early to project how his future will play out, St. Dominic sophomore Tyler Camastro-Szwejkowski just posted the type of performance that makes him a potential two-way player at the next level.

This past summer, he batted .441 with 45 hits, 1 homer, 38 RBIs and 4 strikeouts. He also pitched very well, earning All-Tournament honors at the WWBA Sophomore World Championship. He earned 4 All-Tournament teams for the year.

Cam Sorgie, owner of USG, had the following to say:

“He’s got hands like a shortstop, but he plays the corners because of his size. I like him on the mound as well. He’s a kid that, at his age, you let it play out to see where he winds up but he’ll be elite on both sides of the ball. In this day in age, he can save a roster spot at the college level. There will be a place for him to play at a high-level. He hit almost .500 last year playing a really high-end summer schedule. He’s a line drive hitter – the power will come. And I think he’ll be 90 on the mound this summer,” he said.

Camastro-Szwejowski possesses great size, he’s already 6’0 190 lbs at 15-years-old. His father pitched at Stony Brook University. He is a part of a very talented young core for the Bayhawks that has already garnered varsity experience. His fastball was up to 84 MPH this past August, per Perfect Game.
