MVP South Shore and Team Francisco Notorious 9 faced off in a 14u National LI Boys of Summer midweek matchup on Wednesday night at Salk Middle School. The game started off as a close and good matchup but quickly became ugly in the top of the 5th where South Shore dropped 11 runs onto their total.

Nick Casale started things off early for South Shore, ripping an RBI single up the middle to give them a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st. Their starting pitcher, David Guzman, worked two great innings to start the game. This allowed South Shore to jump to an eventual 5-0 lead through three innings, here’s how that went down.
In the top of the 2nd, South Shore’s Dylan Pisarello roped a double down the right field line to drive in their second run of the game. Then in the top of the 3rd, Jordan Li would drive a triple into the right-center gap to plate another run for his team. James Shelley joined the party with an RBI single of his own to make it 4-0. The 5th run of the game for South Shore would come in on an error by the TF shortstop.

Team Francisco would not roll over and quit just yet though, as they had an answer in the bottom half of the 3rd. The first two runs of the ballgame for TF were both driven in on an error by South Shore’s second baseman, and then an overthrow of third by the catcher would cause a 3rd run to score. This would make the score 5-3 with South Shore still ahead.
Also in the 3rd, Evan Frangas and Kelly Kostulias both would grab RBIs of their own to tie this game up at 5. Frangas with an RBI single through the infield and Kostulias with a sacrifice fly. That would be the end of Team Francisco’s offense for the day though.

In the top of the 4th, South Shore grabbed back the lead on an error to make it 6-5.
But the top of the 5th is where the flood gates really opened for South Shore, as they pushed across 11 runs to put their total at 17.
Let’s run through the 5th inning as best as we can. The 7th run came in on a hit by pitch on Pisarello, then a 2 RBI single would drive in the 8th and 9th run for South Shore. Anthony Nardone would then add a 2 RBI single of his own for South Shore, his 2nd hit of the day. An error by TF would end up causing 3 runs to come in on the same play for South Shore. Another error would score another run to make it 15-5. The last two runs of the day came off the bat of Jason DellAste, who ripped a 2 RBI single to left field.
Finally the top of the 5th came to an end, and after a quick bottom half of the inning, South Shore got the win.
Axcess Baseball got to speak with South Shore’s Anthony Nardone following the game.
“I’m just thinking to get a hit,” Nardone said, “just get a hit and pass the baton to the next person. Just really want to get a hit and get runs in.”
Nardone got the job done for his team today going 2/4 with 2 RBI at the plate hitting in the leadoff spot.
MVP South Shore improved their record to 2-6-2 with the win, while Team Francisco dropped to a record of 0-5 on the summer.
