When Jayden Setiadi (Deer Park 2027) came to the plate in the bottom of the fourth for the Long Island Huskies, they were tied up with Dodgers Nation Anzano, 2-2. The game had been tight, with both sides trying to pull away. Setiadi went down 1-2 in the count and with two runners in scoring position and two outs, it looked like another inning would go by where a team would miss out an opportunity.
Setiati battled, taking two balls and fouling a pitch to stay alive and work the count full. Finally, on the next pitch he connected, hitting a hard grounder between the shortstop and the third baseman. Dan Cornish (Ward Melville 2026) scored easily and Chase McQuade (Farmingdale 2027) was also able to score as he got a great jump, running with a full count and two outs and the Huskies were now in front 4-2.
Setiadi said he understood the magnitude of this at-bat and knew he had to come through for his team. Once he went down in the count he said he was protecting the plate and waiting for his pitch to drive.
“I knew I needed to protect anything close, get the bat to ball, get it on the ground and get it through,” Sediadi. “I got my fastball inside and I turned on it and got it through.”

The game would only last five innings and the Huskies won 6-2, improving to 3-2-1 in league play in the LI Boys of Summer 16U American Division. Both teams entered the evening tired, playing three games each over the weekend in the Axcess Baseball College Showcase. In fact, these two squads faced off on Saturday and it was Dodgers Nation that came away victorious winning 7-3.
“We don’t let our losses get to us,” Setiadi said when asked about Saturday’s loss. “We just keep playing our game, we know we’re a good team, we just let our game come.”
The Huskies were led by Sal Trotta (Bellmore JFK 2027) on the mound to start the game. The crafty left-hander threw four innings, only allowing one hit and striking out four.
He was able to pitch with a lead after the Huskies got on the board in the bottom of the first. With Jeremy Leone (Holy Trinity 2026) on the mound for Dodgers Nation, Steven Grabowski (Saint Anthony’s 2027) hustled out an infield single with one out. He advanced to second on an E6 and to third on a passed ball. Later in the inning, with runners on the corners he was able to score after Dodgers Nation catcher Anthony Anzano (MacArthur 2026) fired the ball down to second, leading to a rundown between third and home that led to Grabowski scoring.

Matt Trabulsi (Smithtown East 2026) advanced to third on this play and was driven in by his starting catcher Mark Reo (Farmingdale 2027) who hit a bloop single into shallow left field to give the Huskies an early 2-0 lead.
Dodgers Nation would get these runs back but not because of any big hits. In the second, Trotta walked Aidan Klocek (Garden City 2026) which was followed by an opposite field single to right field by Leone. The pair would advance into scoring position on a double steal before Trotta balked, allowing Klocek to score to make the score 2-1.
In the following inning, Trotta walked Angelo Ilarda (Farmingdale 2026) to start the inning. Ilarda stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. Two batters later with one out and Gus Sofronis (MacArthur 2027) hitting, the Dodgers Nation coach saw an opportunity to play small ball and steal a run. He sent Ilarda running from third, Sofronis showed bunt, a suicide squeeze was imminent, but Sofronis pulled back.

Ilarda was already three quarters of the way down the line and had to stop on a dime to get back to third. Similar to the Grabowski run in the bottom of the first, there was a rundown between third and home. Ilarda was able to eventually win the battle, sliding into home to tie the game up at two runs apiece.
Outside of Setiadi’s huge knock in the bottom of the fourth, this game lacked any big, exciting plays. The pace of play was methodical, but it was ultimately the Huskies who were able to swing the pendulum to get the win.
“It’s a Monday, we’re all tired, it’s a hot day, but we stayed focused, we cheered for our team and we worked together,” Setiadi said.
The game ended with more chaos on the bases. After Carter Eisenberg (Northport 2027) fired a scoreless fifth inning in relief for the Huskies, they looked to add insurance in the bottom of the inning. With Devin Paredes (MacArthur 2027) now pitching the Huskies had the bases loaded and one out with Reo at the plate.

He hit what looked to be a sure-fire doubleplay chopper right back to Paredes. He gobbled it up, fired it home to Richie Clark (Holy Trinity 2027) for the second out. This is where trouble arose, Clark made an errant throw to Leone at first allowing Chris Mazzola (Deer Park 2026) to score. Leone compounded this error by trying to get Mazzola at the plate, his throw home was wild, Grabowski then hustled home for his second run of the evening and the Huskies now led 6-2.
By the time Padres retired Michael Criollo for the third out, the game had just run out of time and the Huskies got the victory.
Dodgers Nation Anzano still sits towards the top of the standings as they fall to 4-2. They will look to bounce back with two doubleheaders this weekend, against LI Elite Inciarrano on Saturday and against Hicksville Elite on Sunday.
The Huskies will look to build off this victory with a doubleheader on Friday against B1 Ghost Graziano.
