On a cold, rainy day at SUNY Purchase in Harrison N.Y. the Fieldston Eagles took down the Long Island Lutheran Crusaders, 3-2, to capture the NYSAIS Championship. After surrendering their 2-1 lead with two outs in the seventh inning, the Eagles were able to bounce back and take down the Crusaders with a walkoff squeeze bunt in the bottom of the eighth inning. A bunt by Noah Nemirovsky was the winner for the Eagles, as they capture their crown in Harrison.
Both starting pitchers were able to shine in the brightest moment. On the mound for the Eagles was Luc Roure. Roure pitched the first seven innings of the game for the Eagles, striking out eight and allowing only two runs (one earned) on six hits. On the other side, Matthew Muzikant nearly matched him, pitching the first 6.2 innings for the Crusaders, striking out five, and allowing two runs (none earned) on four hits. Although both starters were nearly perfect, it was their imperfections that led the game to extra innings.

The first run of the game was nearly scored by the games first batter, as, after singling, LuHi leadoff hitter Kayden Bates stole second and third. But on his steal of third, the throw went over the head of the catcher, and Bates decided to gamble. A perfect throw by Fieldston left fielder Luca Giglo got Bates at the plate, and kept the game scoreless.
The Eagles scored the first two runs of the game in the third inning. As after Abe Lambert and Sol Newman reached base in back to back at bats, they were brought home. Lambert scored on a sacrifice fly by Giglo, and Newman scored on an RBI single by Jack Dalven-Swidler.
The Eagles 2-0 lead was preserved until the fifth inning of the contest. After reaching second on an error by the second baseman, LuHi’s Cameron Coco advanced to third on a ground out by Vincent Bourne. Bates scored Coco on a sacrifice fly, that was made possible by an incredible diving catch by Eagles center fielder Ellis Lynch-Kohn. The Eagles brought their 2-1 lead into the top of the seventh inning, with the Crusaders needing a miracle.

A one out single by Coco was followed up by a strikeout Bourne, putting the game into the hands of Bates, who came up clutch for the Crusaders, driving the ball deep into right, over the head of right fielder Lambert, scoring Coco, and tying the game at two apiece, which meant that this game would need extra innings to decide it.
Entering in relief, Max Held, as his last name says, held the lead for the Eagles. Retiring all three batters he faced, Held quickly put his offense back onto the field, and the Eagles couldn’t wait to capture their championship. Dalven-Swidler kicked off the inning with a leadoff single, advanced to second on a Teddy Shaw ground out, and then to third on a single by Sammy Bialkin. Standing on third, Noah Nemirovsky laid down a perfect but down the first base line, allowing Dalven-Swidler to score, which secured the win for the Eagles.
