GAME RECAP: Jayden Stroman Strikes Out 12 over 4 Innings, Pat-Med Wins 7-1

GAME RECAP: Jayden Stroman Strikes Out 12 over 4 Innings, Pat-Med Wins 7-1

Even with over a dozen scouts lined up behind home plate, Jayden Stroman was unfazed. The flame-throwing Duke-commit fired 4 hitless innings, recording 12 strikeouts and yielding two walks. He earned the win in a 7-1 victory by Pat-Med over League I rival William Floyd.

“They’re people just like you and me,” said Stroman in regards to how he stays focused amidst the flurry of scouts. “There’s people on the sides, it’s the same thing – to me they’re just standing in a different location.”

After Stroman struck out four in the first inning, the Raiders wasted little time getting on the board.

Frank Kentoffio and Jace Rogers walked and a hit by pitch of Ashton Klugewicz loaded the bases, Chase Desantis hit a sac fly to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. The following batter, Brayden Davis, reached on an error for the second run to score. The following batter popped out to end the inning.

With a pitcher like Stroman on the mound, anything more than 1 run feels like a steep mountain to climb. He worked around a HBP to strike out the side in the second inning and get his team back in the dugout.

Neither team would score in the third inning, but Pat-Med added a run in the fourth inning when the rally was started by Stroman. He smacked a 1-out double down the right field line, advanced to third on a single by Kentoffio and scored on a passed ball to make it 3-0.

His work was done, as he reached his pitch limit of 70, which coincided with the flurry of scouts exiting the field.

Kentoffio came on in relief and worked around a HBP and walk of Jack Molini, inducing an inning ending pop out in foul territory that he handled himself.

William Floyd would get on the board in the top of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Gabriel Beta to score Paul Cucozzo.

That was as close as they’d get. The Raiders would break the game open in the home half of the sixth with a two-run double by Kentoffio to score Evan Picciano and Alberto Menniti. They would add two more runs on sac flies to make it 7-1.

Conor Lockwood was able to seal the deal, stranding the bases loaded with a ground out to second off the bat of Aidan Dobrie.

In regards to their goals the rest of the way: “Just keeping our heads down and going back to work next week against Whitman – it should be another great series, just getgting ready to face them. Just staying on the same page as a team and continuing to take great at bats.”

Following the game, Pat-Med coach Anthony Frascogna said, “It’s always exciting when Jayden pitches, but we know we are still going to have a ballgame based on where his pitch count is – which is climbing nicely. We got a couple clutch hits, Frankie came through with the big swing and that gave us a little breathing room. Floyd is good, they always put a lot of pressure on you, when they’re on offense they do a lot of different things, so to score a couple runs and take the pressure off was big.”

Pat-Med improved to 7-2 in League I, going into a big showdown this week against Walt Whitman (5-1).
